Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
What is an ICE Global Cultural Ambassador (GCA)?
ICE Global Cultural Ambassadors (GCA) are people united by passion to:
– share their culture with others
– connect people to understand the world
– break stereotypes and create an more inclusive society
GCA engage in cultural sharing when there is a relevant ICE event. ICE also hosts casual get-togethers and community events to connect GCA with other internationals and locals based in Hong Kong.
What are the volunteering programs like?
ICE projects take you to various local primary schools, secondary schools, universities, corporates, and NGOs across Hong Kong, Kowloon, and the New Territories.
You will be invited to share your culture and personal experiences through various themes.
What are my roles as a Global Cultural Ambassador?
As a "culture sharer," you are the bridge between your home country and the local community. A standard session usually includes:
- Cultural Presentations: Delivering short, engaging talks on specific topics related to your country.
- Interactive Activities: Leading casual conversations and workshops to engage participants.
- Cultural Showcasing: At certain events, you may help decorate and showcase your country's heritage.
Am I qualified to join?
We welcome anyone who is passionate about sharing their culture! Please don't worry if you haven't done this before—we host training sessions to help you feel confident and prepared to meet the students.
To get started, you just need to attend one (1) compulsory training session. After that, you’ll be invited to join two (2) volunteer sessions where you can officially start sharing your culture with the community!
Is this a paid position?
While GCAs are volunteers and do not receive a salary, we provide a fixed subsidy for every session attended to cover transportation (and occasionally food) costs.
Career Benefits: GCAS is an excellent way to enrich your CV. Outstanding Ambassadors receive priority consideration for our competitive 3-month ICE internships.
What other activities can I participate in?
Beyond school projects, you will be part of a diverse global community.
We have hosted numerous ICE community events, including:
- French Wine & Cheese Tasting
- Chinese Calligraphy
- Indian Pani Puri Night
- Board Games Night
- Philosophy Club Discussion
- Hiking
- BBQ Party at Ma On Shan
- Christmas Party
OR hosting your own cultural event at the ICE hub!
What happens after I submit my application?
Once your application is submitted, you will receive a confirmation email containing an official invitation to our next Welcome Party and Training Day.
